BOWLING GREEN STATE UNIVERSITY AWARDED FIVE YEAR HSE ACADEMIC REACCREDITATION AT THE JUNE 2023 NAB ANNUAL MEETING

Bowling Green State University renews NAB Accredited Health Services Degree Program

WASHINGTON, DC – During the June 2023 Annual Meeting, the National Association of Long Term Care Administrator Boards (NAB) Board of Governors awarded five year accreditation to Bowling Green State University. Bowling Green State University’s HSE degree program has risen as a high-quality program in a short span of time through the commitment and dedication of university leadership and faculty.

NAB Chairman Z Thomas presented the award on June 16, 2023, and recognized Bowling Green State University for its commitment to higher education and quality program standards for graduates entering the senior living and health services profession. “BGSU is grateful to NAB, the accreditation site team, and the process which allows us to improve our program to meet the challenges of future leaders. We are excited to continue to be a part of the NAB-accredited programs. As a NAB accredited Health Services Executive program, this allows BGSU to educate future professionals to provide leadership in a variety of post-acute settings,” stated Dean Jim Ciesla. Jennifer Wagner, MPH, HSE, LNHA, CEAL shared “As we reflect on our own journey to become an NHA, Dr. Cynthia Spitler and I, Associate Practitioner Professor Jennifer Wagner, graduated from LTC programs before NAB Accreditation was developed. We are grateful to have the experience of teaching at Bowling Green State University and utilize the accreditation process to improve our courses. We value being a NAB HSE accredited program as it increases opportunities for our students in all lines of service and they have more portability with their licenses.”

Established in 1995, NAB's academic accreditation program goals are to improve and strengthen the academic preparation of Health Services Executives--a goal we believe educators share. NAB encourages improvement of baccalaureate and graduate level HSE degree programs by application of specific accreditation requirements to measure characteristics of a program, and by making judgments about the overall quality of the program.

NAB’s accreditation program has evolved over the past 25 years from a degree in nursing home administration to the current Health Services Executive (HSE) degree program preparing students to meet practice standards in all lines of senior living and health services in states that have adopted the NAB HSE standard. Currently 26 states have adopted the NAB HSE standard.

NAB, the nation’s authority on licensing executives in senior living and health services to deliver quality care, convenes 52 state regulatory boards and agencies, former state regulatory board members, academics, continuing education sponsors, and affiliated associations.
