Whether you're entering the profession through the Education Pathway or expanding your credentials through the Career Pathway, you may qualify for one of the following HSE™ exam incentives.
For graduates of NAB-accredited HSE™ programs
Graduates of NAB-accredited HSE™ programs may qualify for the following one-time incentives within five (5) years of graduation.
100% Exam Fee Reduction
Receive a one-time 100% fee reduction for the following Line of Service (LOS) exams:
- Residential Care/Assisted Living (RCAL)
- Home and Community Based Services (HCBS)
Through the HSE Ready Track, graduates may take all four licensure exams directly through NAB beginning three (3) months before graduation through three (3) months after graduation. This allows candidates to accelerate entry into the profession as HSE Ready state licensure candidates.
To receive these incentives, applicants must:
- Graduate from a NAB-accredited HSE™ program.
- Submit an HSE™ application through the Education Pathway.
- Have their HSE™ application approved by NAB's Credentialing Commission before registering for discounted exams.
- Register for discounted exams only after HSE™ application approval. No refunds will be issued for exams purchased prior to approval.
- Use each incentive only once.
- Pay standard NAB exam fees for any required retakes.
Available July 1, 2026 – June 30, 2029
This incentive is designed to help experienced administrators become HSE-qualified while supporting greater professional mobility between states.
Experienced Nursing Home Administrators who meet the qualifications below may receive a one-time 50% fee reduction for the:
- Residential Care/Assisted Living (RCAL) Exam
- Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) Exam
To receive this incentive, applicants must:
- Hold an active Nursing Home Administrator (NHA) license.
- Have at least three (3) years of Administrator of Record experience within the previous five (5) years.
- Hold a bachelor's degree.
- Submit an HSE™ application through the Career Pathway.
- Have their HSE™ application approved by NAB's Credentialing Commission before registering for discounted exams.
- Register for discounted exams only after HSE™ application approval. No refunds will be issued for previously purchased exam applications.
- Use the incentive only once.
- Pay standard NAB exam fees for any required retakes.
