The NAB Continuing Education Committee convened on June 6, 2024 in Oklahoma City, OK, during the NAB 2024 Annual Meeting, led by Committee Chair Lisa Hahn, and Vice-Chair Michael Coury.

The first agenda item for the committee was to review the results from the Program Development Guide and CE Policy Writing task forces, presented by the task force members. The committee reviewed the first draft of the program development guide, which includes more information about the definition and value of engaged learning, and a long list of sample methods. Two members of the task force, who are also long-term NCERS reviewers, presented a draft of the NCERS Reviewer Matrix, which aims to help reviewers be more consistent in their program reviews.

The CE Policy Writing task force then presented the recommended changes that were discussed during the previous CE Committee meeting in October 2023. These changes included new program monitoring policies, program renewal limits, updated speaker qualifications, and other topics. The committee discussed all of the items presented. The task forces will refine their work, and new drafts will be presented at the 2024 Mid-Year Meeting.

Following those presentations, the CE Committee held a lively discussion around two hot topics affecting CE Providers and NCERS Reviewers – the ability to submit programs for approval after they have occurred, and book study programs. While there was consensus in favor of allowing post-event program submissions, opinions were split on the future of book study programs. To help resolve this, the committee leadership will present options via a survey for the State Boards.

Finally, the committee recognized Michael Coury, who has completed his term as Vice-Chair of the CE Committee. Thank you, Michael, for your dedication and support!
