Southwestern Oklahoma State University – Bachelor’s Degree in Health Science in Healthcare Administration becomes the 18th NAB Accredited Health Services Degree Program
WASHINGTON, DC – During the June 2024 Annual Meeting, the National Association of Long Term Care Administrator Boards (NAB) Board of Governors awarded accreditation to Southwestern Oklahoma State University – Bachelor’s Degree in Health Science in Healthcare Administration Program. Southwestern Oklahoma State Universities HSE degree program has become a high-quality program in a short period through the commitment and dedication of university leadership and faculty.
NAB Chairman Gaylord “Z” Thomas presented the award on June 7, 2024. He recognized Southwestern Oklahoma State University for its commitment to higher education and quality program standards for graduates entering the senior living and health services profession. “We are honored to have received Academic Accreditation through NAB for our Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration – Long-Term Care (HCA-LTC) Specialist Degree, which is recognized as an Accredited Health Services Degree Program,” stated Program Director Teri Stubbs, M.Ed, RHIA, CHPS. “This accreditation affirms our commitment to preparing students to become skilled, compassionate leaders in the long-term care industry. It validates the quality of our curriculum and enhances professional opportunities for graduates in a rapidly evolving healthcare landscape.”
The didactic portion of the degree is delivered online, making it accessible to students in various locations. SWOSU is the only NAB Academic Accredited HSE Program in Oklahoma and its surrounding states. Upon completion of the BS HCA-LTC Specialization Degree, students will be eligible to sit for the Oklahoma Long-Term Care Administration License Exam. Upon completion of the BS HCA-LTC Specialization Degree, students will be eligible to sit for both the Oklahoma Long-Term Care Licensing Exam and the NAB Core and Line of Services (LOS) Licensing Exams.
Established in 1995, NAB's academic accreditation program goals are to improve and strengthen the academic preparation of Health Services Executives—a goal we believe educators share. NAB encourages the improvement of baccalaureate and graduate-level HSE degree programs by application of specific accreditation requirements to measure characteristics of a program, and by making judgments about the overall quality of the program.
NAB’s accreditation program has evolved over the past 25 years from a degree in nursing home administration to the current Health Services Executive (HSE) degree program preparing students to meet practice standards in all lines of senior living and health services in states that have adopted the NAB HSE standard. Currently, 28 states have adopted the NAB HSE standard.
