Join us for a session on Emergency Preparedness with Jody DePriest, Katrina Magdon, and Jeffrey Markulik. 

C. Joseph “Jody DePriest, Jr., NFA

Jody DePriest is a Regional Vice President of Operations for Pathway South, LLC which owns and operates nursing facilities in Southern Louisiana.  Mr. DePriest supervises nursing facilities in southeast Louisiana and the New Orleans area.   He has been in the health care industry as a licensed administrator since 1992.

Mr. DePriest became acutely aware of the needs of a detailed emergency disaster plan after facing one of the greatest natural disasters in U.S. history with Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005 and the mandatory evacuation of approximately 900 residents, staff and family members.  His assistance in the development of emergency planning was further tested during Hurricanes Gustav and Ike in 2008, Laura and Zeta in 2020 and most recently Ida in 2021.  In addition to hurricanes, he has directed evacuations of residents safely to host facilities related flash floods in Baton Rouge, chemical spills, bomb threats, equipment failure.

Mr. DePriest and his organization hold mock disaster drills on an annual basis and formulate a “worst” case scenario to house more than 2,000 long term care residents and staff.

In addition to devoting his career to the care of the elderly, Mr. DePriest also devotes time to the National Association of Long Term Care Administrator Board as an item writer and reviewer for the National Long Term Care Administrator’s Exam.

Mr. DePriest is a graduate of Louisiana State University Baton Rouge with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration.

Jeffrey Markulik

Jeffrey Markulik is a licensed nursing home administrator in the states of Florida, Ohio and Indiana. He has been employed in the aging services profession for the last 35 years and is currently the president at Sea Oats Healthcare in Atlantic Beach, Florida.  Mr. Markulik received his Bachelor of Arts in Gerontology from Kent State University and is a Certified Aging Services Professional from the University of North Texas. He is the immediate past treasurer/secretary as well as representing the long-term care sector at the Northeast Florida Health Care Coalition – Jacksonville and the immediate past Not-For-Profit Vice President for the Florida Health Care Association– Tallahassee. Mr. Markulik also serves on the National Association Of Long Term Care Administrator Boards as a standing member of the State Governance and Regulatory Issues Committee and a standing member on the Nursing Home Administration (NHA) exam subcommittee.

Katrina G. Magdon – MPA, CAE

Mrs. Magdon currently serves as the Vice-President of Operations and Regulatory Affairs for the Alabama Nursing Home Association (ANHA) and the Executive Secretary of the Alabama Board of Examiners of Nursing Home Administrators.  Mrs. Magdon has over 36 years of experience in working in the healthcare industry.  In her role with ANHA Mrs. Magdon initiates, directs and provides statistically-oriented special projects related to reimbursement, health policy, and long term care regulatory issues; Maintains an up-to-date knowledge of state and federal relevant laws, rules, regulations, policy changes and trends which directly affect the long term care industry – nursing homes, assisted living, home and community based services; provides information, advice and technical assistance to membership regarding nursing home and assisted living facility survey/certification/licensure issues and reimbursement issues.  Mrs. Magdon is the only employee of the Alabama Board of Examiners of Nursing Home Administrators.  A state Board with over 500 active licensees. In addition to her duties with ANHA and the State Board, Mrs. Magdon currently serves as the Chairman for the National Association of Board of Examiners for Long Term Care Administrators (NAB) Examination Committee.  Mrs. Magdon holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in public administration master’s in health care from Auburn University – Montgomery.  Mrs. Magdon was licensed as a nursing home administrator in 1990.  In 2012, Mrs. Magdon became a Certified Association Executive.  In 2015, NAB bestowed its Distinguished Service Award to Mrs. Magdon for her outstanding contributions to the profession of long term care administration.
