Streamlining the Path to Licensure: A Suggestion for Approval Letter Updates

Dear State Board Members,

Here at the National Association of Long Term Care Administrator Boards (NAB), we're constantly striving to improve the licensing experience for both candidates and state boards. Today, we'd like to propose a simple update to your state's approval letters for licensing candidates.

The Suggestion:

We recommend including the following information in your approval letters:

  • NAB Website Application: After receiving your approval, candidates should log onto the NAB website (https://www.nabweb.org/) and apply for the specific exam they wish to take. Please be sure to include the state-specific exam name/ code in your letter for easy reference.

  • State Board Approval Process: Please remind candidates that following their NAB exam application submission, the application will be forwarded to the state board for final approval. NAB does not approve exam applications under a state’s jurisdiction.

Benefits of the Update:

This simple addition can provide significant benefits for both candidates and boards:

  • Including the NAB website link and application steps directly in the approval letter provides clear direction for candidates, ensuring they navigate the process smoothly.

  • By addressing the next step in the application process, you may see fewer inquiries from confused candidates, who may not understand why the state board must approve them again on the NAB website.

Additionally:

  • Please note that all purchases for study guides and practice exams offered through the NAB website are non-refundable.

We believe this update is a small change with a positive impact. We appreciate your consideration and welcome any feedback you may have at nab@nabweb.org
